The men from Reading scored a steady stream of tries throughout the game to keep the fans entertained, as they grabbed 5 valuable points in their challenge for promotion.
It was also a landmark game for Rams 2nd row, Ollie Taylor, as he hit a century of National league appearances for Rams. Head coach, Seb Reynolds, expressed his gratitude after the game, saying, “Huge credit to Ollie Taylor for hitting one hundred games at the club, since coming over from Bracknell. He runs our line out, he’s an intelligent player and a great guy to have in the team.”
Reynolds also articulated his delight at this high-ranking performance in terms of their season, saying “Some of the continuity play and skill-set demonstrated by the players today was outstanding. We had real momentum and flow to our game. We wanted to put Worthing on the back foot by applying pressure with a high tempo, because they’re a good side. In terms of the skill level today I think that’s some of the best I’ve seen all season.”
Rams came flying out of the blocks, setting up a marker for things to come, as they scored after just 2 minutes, having advanced with a number of pick up and drives, with Ellis Jones squeezing the ball over the line in the corner.
Rams capitalised on this early momentum securing two more tries before the 15 minute mark, the first of which came as Jamie Guttridge broke and offloaded to Tom Vooght who came agonisingly close to scoring himself, but Andrew Denham was on hand in support to complete the move and score in the corner.
Denham was not done here, however, as he doubled his tally for the afternoon, with Greg Illingworth taking the ball out the back of the scrum and playing it to the winger who was making a well-timed run, to score under the posts and secure a bonus point for the away side.
Rams managed one more try before half time to take them into the break in control with the score at 29-0.
Worthing emerged the better of the two sides at the beginning of the second half applying pressure on their oppositions defence, but despite their best efforts, they were unable to capitalise before Andrew Humberstone scored to further add to the Rams lead.
However, the home side reacted well, storming forward with pace, power and great skill to produce a score for Barnes....in the left hand corner.,
From this point the men from Reading reasserted their dominance, as they mercilessly secured three more tries. The pick of which came as Jak Rossiter weaved his way through,. playing the ball to Ollie Taylor on the wing, who quickly popped it back inside to Vooght, allowing him to score in the corner. Rams defence coach Danny Batty paid tribute to his sides hard work 'I'm very pleased with what the boys did today. We knew Worthing were suffering with injuries but they still have some very good young runners and great half backs, which made our defensive shift all the more impressive'
This week Rams take on Redruth at home KO 2.30pm.
