Rams edge closer to the National 2 South league title after a securing five points against a resolute Redruth side.

Rams secured yet another bonus point victory against Redruth on a sunny day at Old Bath Road, with the score finishing at 28-10

Rams looked comfortable, showing their class throughout the game, with Rossiter putting in a particularly impressive performance on the wing.

As the Rams edged ever closer to promotion Rams head coach, Seb Reynolds, reminisced about how far they’ve come, as he spoke to us after the game, saying, “Our first game in national 2 four years ago was Redruth at home and they really took us to the cleaners that day and gave us a lesson on what national 2 rugby is all about, whereas four years later we’ve got a comfortable win against them at home. It was a good performance against a side that were trying to slow us down a bit, but we dealt with it well, so I’m very pleased. I’d also like to say a big thanks to Craig Nightingale who captained the side today, he’s been at the club since he was six years old and he did a good job".

Redruth’s head coach was gracious in defeat paying tribute to the table toppers as he said, “the Rams were very worthy of their win today, but I’m proud of my guys who stuck at it well. We had a young side today, with 5 players on the bench, three 18 year olds and two 19 year olds, so credit to them. You can see why Rams are top of the league, they’re a well-drilled side, but they’re not flashy, they just get the job done.

Rams came out flying, as they scored in the first minute of the game, with Guttridge breaking and playing the ball off to Lloyd who sidestepped his opposite man and dived over the line to score.

Following a quiet 25 minutes the Rams got their second try of the afternoon as the ball came out the back of the scrum and made its way up and down the line until it found Kidd who shrugged off a number of defenders to double the Rams lead.

Rams were out of the blocks quickly once again in the second half, and it didn’t take long to add further to their lead, as they drove to the line after a penalty line out with Guttridge forcing the ball over the line.

Shortly after, the Rams secured their bonus point in spectacular fashion, as Rossiter ran the length of the pitch to score, having intercepted a Redruth pass.

The away team reacted well scoring two tries of their own in similar fashion with Bonds taking the ball over the line on both occasions, but it was only consolation, as the Rams emerged victorious at the sound of the referees final whistle.

Rams travel to Bristol on Saturday 6th April and will be hoping they can achieve another winning performance against 6th place Clifton.
