Eight tries, including a hat-trick from No.8 Jamie Guttridge

at the Old Bath Road ground last Saturday helped ease dominant Rams one point clear of second placed Brixham at the top of the National Three South West table.
It's set up a fascinating top-of-the-table clash between the two leading protagonists when the Devon side are Rams visitors this Saturday, 2pm.
Guttridge, who carved out a straight hat-trick with two tries before the interval and one immediately after the break, revelled in Rams overall superiority as did the rest of his team mates who rarely let their let their visitors into the home 22.
But, he said modestly afterwards: “It was quite easy when you've got a pack like that to be honest. So it was forwards tries really. I didn't have to do much but I get the plaudits. We were clinical when we got in the red zone, we weren't messing around or dropping the ball or trying to do silly things.”
Greeted on to the pitch with a flag waving tunnel of the clubs minis, Rams dominated the opening stages and finally went in front when Somerset referee Carl Bennett awarded a penalty try when a Quins forward deliberately played a ball in an offside position to prevent Rams from scoring.
Scrum half James Brooks comfortably converted but missed with a penalty attempt soon after which hit the side of the upright and bounced to safety.
With lock Tom Bryson forced off the pitch with a calf injury Rams made their first substitution with Ian Jeffreys coming on as replacement and immediately winning a line-out that, ultimately, led to the visitors going offside at a ruck and Brooks banging over the resulting penalty for a 10-0 lead on 19 minutes.
With the game turning tetchy at times and with Rams tight-head prop James Baker sin-binned for a so-called dump tackle Rams still managed to increase their lead.
It followed a a good line-out take from grafting lock James Hughes, 10 metres out from the visitors line, and a great drive from the forwards that finally saw Guttridge burying his way over only for Brooks conversion attempt to hit the upright and bounce to safety.
And on the stroke of half-time Guttridge was at it again as the Rams pack drove the visitors in the tight and a huge shove saw them finally power over the visitors line for Guttridge to touch down and for Brooks to add the extras for a 22-0 half-time lead.
The bonus point for scoring four tries was the next target and seven minutes into the second half Rams power in the tight again proved decisive as they once more drove the Quins back over their own line and Guttridge made no mistake with the touchdown to complete his hat-trick and ensure the additional point.
Although Brooks put his conversion to the right of the posts Rams were leading, 27-0, and were now in total command.
They were far too savvy for the Quins and with their pack on top they had carved out four more tries by the final whistle.
First a Hughes line-out take was powered on by Guttridge before the ball was swept out through Brooks and fly half Luke Flower to send centre David Massey storming over on the right, Brooks converting, and then wing Olly Poole's great surging run to within 10 metres of the visitors line saw the ball quickly recycled and for his opposite number and left wing Gavin Dampies to race over for a try on his debut.
Brooks converted only to be replaced by Will Clark who was immediately involved in the seventh try as from an Andy Amor line-out take he helped the ball speed out to Poole who brushed aside all efforts to stop him from scoring and dabbed down for Flower to add the conversion and a 46-0 lead.
Although the battling visitors did manage to break their duck with a consolation try from full back Jack Avery Rams added the coup-de-gras in the final minutes as a great five metre drive from the pack was finished off by Jeffreys and for Flowers successful conversion to end the match.
“It was a great result today,” summed up Rams skipper Andy Amor afterwards. “We showed our forward dominance for the first 30/40 minutes and that really gave us the platform to play a little more open in the later stages. It was close to a complete performance and in the last two games we've scored over 50 points each time and we want to build on that for next week and another home game against Brixham which will be a really tough one!”
Rams:- Duffelen; Poole, Bryant, Massey, Dampies; Flower, Brooks; Weller, Henderson, Baker; Bryson, Hughes; Amor (c), Hopkins, Guttridge. Reps all used – Steadman, Jeffreys, Clark.
