CAPTAIN George Green, Matt Rose and substitute Tom David both touched down twice as 14-try Rams Centaurs climbed to second in the Counties Two Tribute Berks, Bucks & Oxon South table with an emphatic 90-7 home victory against Thatcham.
It was an eighth win in nine games for the Mighty Cents, with Berkshire Under 20s scrum-half getting the show on the road after seven minutes for a score added to by Cameron George.
Full-back Joel Davies crossed for a converted try soon after, skipper Green dotting down the third as George made it 21-0.
Long-serving Rose, continuing to thrive in his late-career switch to the back row, secured the bonus-point, before Shane Hancock’s try was converted by Theo Pett-Ridge.
There were two more tries in the final three minutes of the first half, Dan Bennett and Rose over the line as a brace of Pett-Ridge kicks made it 47-0 at the interval.
The points kept coming early in the second period as David bagged a quick-fire brace, the try-scorer the third player to add a conversion when adding to his second.
Another of the older guard, James Dias, took his side’s try tally into double figures, Green then marching over as David extended the lead to 71-0 midway through the final quarter.
Thatcham were gallant to the end and got on the scoreboard themselves with an interception, but Pett-Ridge redressed the balance as he converted his own try.
And a further flourish was added at the death, Pett-Ridge again on target after Harrison Stanners touched down, Robin Taylor completing the rout in the penultimate minute.
The Cents’ sensational run sees them a point clear of Marlow 2nd XV – who have played a game more – with two fixtures remaining.
Tadley sit fourth and three points adrift of Rams with a pivotal clash on the cards when the sides lock horns at Red Lane on Saturday, March 22.
Fifth-placed Maidenhead 2nd XV also retain an outside chance of a top-two finish and visit Centaurs in the final game of the campaign on April 5.
