Redingensians Colts overwhelmed Maidenhead, and in some ways will be disappointed that they didn’t win by a bigger margin. Two tries in the opening ten minutes promised an avalanche of points, but a quiet period either side of halftime kept the score down.
Indicative of the performance’s completeness was the spread of tries, with scores coming from all parts of the team.
Driven mauls accounted for two tries, one from a catch-and-drive from a lineout claimed by Dunster, and one after the ball carrier was held up in the 22 scored by Vooght.
Outside backs scored two others, with Reynolds on the end of a sweeping passing move after Robert Jones had pilfered a lineout, and the final try coming from a training-ground move that put Alex Jones under the posts.
The other two tries can be attributed to the alertness of Gough at scrum half. Firstly he charged down his opposite number’s kick for Vooght to pounce on the loose ball. And he took a quick penalty when the Maidenhead team were sleeping and darted over himself.
Two wins and a bonus point will see them pip Henley on the result of the game between the teams.
