ANOTHER terrific performance steered Rams Colts to a third straight OBB Division One victory as a first-half blitz led them past Marlow 54-17.
Despite an error in dealing with the kick-off allowing the visitors to take a first-minute lead via a penalty, Rams were then quickly into their stride and crossed from close-range through Obi Nwachuku, Matt Cox on target with the conversion.
A second swiftly followed at the end of a flowing team move, the hosts going from within their own half and putting the ball through the hands before Jayden Benham was stopped just short, only for Jack Mander to power over and Cox to double up.
Rams were beginning to purr and a classy Nwachuku off-load created space for Cox to glide under the posts, his simple nudge making it 21-3.
There was no let-up from the home side as they rotated their squad, replacement Jake Scott with a strong carry to set-up Benham for the bonus-point try.
Tegan Strydom – along with fellow back rows Henry Cook and Mander – were proving difficult to contend with for Marlow, and it was the former who was next to touch down, the extras making it 35-3 inside 26 minutes.
However, Rams momentarily switched off, leaking a string of penalties before a quick tap-and-go helped the visitors get on the board for 35-10 at half-time.
The Berkshire boys responded strongly after the break, though, and after Mander was held up over the line they grabbed a sixth try, Luke Thorpe’s classy outside break enabling substitute full-back Finlay Wells to finish.
An astonishing 25-metre maul set-up the next try as Rams were halted just short before the ever-lively Declan Grobbelaar touched down on the left.
Cox lost his perfect record before the resilient visitors put together a cracking converted try of their own, but it was Rams who had the final word, prop Mason Pennington burrowing over from close range before the final kick was added.
The Colts travel to Tring for the third round of the National Cup on Sunday (provisional 1pm ko).
