RAMS Colts crashed out of the National Cup at the last 16 stage as their mistakes were ruthlessly punished in a 35-12 reverse at Rosslyn Park.
The visitors made a disastrous start as the Londoners shifted the ball down the backline for a score finished on the left, a fine conversion making it 7-0 inside a couple of minutes.
Rams rallied, however, using a power game to make ground before prop Obi Nwachuku was held up over the line.
Yet the scores were level shortly after, Park losing control of a scrum on their own five-metre line before Jack Mander pounced on a loose ball to dive over for a score added to by Matt Cox.
Things took a turn for the worse when a clearance kick bounced kindly for Park to grab a second out wide, this time the conversion off target.
Rams again came back strongly, but a pivotal moment saw them lose their own attacking line-out before their free-flowing opponents went from inside their own 22 to pick up a third try, this time in the right-hand corner.
Another error from the away side saw them concede a turnover just outside their 22, Park clinically shipping the ball left for 22-7.
A fifth home score arrived with the final play of the opening half, another attempted clearance hoovered up before more swift handling saw Rosslyn sail into a 20-point lead at the interval.
Rams remained defiant and upped the ante after the break, their powerful maul forcing a succession of penalties before the hosts lost a player to the sin-bin.
The visitors made their numerical advantage pay as Jake Scott rode over from the back of another surging set-piece, Cox off target with the extras attempt, and they then conceded a scrum penalty which allowed Park to reestablish themselves with a 30-12 lead.
And try as they might Rams – who had not played since their last cup game back in mid-November – were never truly able to rouse themselves, salt poured into the wounds as a somewhat nondescript second period ended with the hosts breaking a couple of tackles to grab yet another try out wide on the left.
Rams will now turn their attentions to retaining their OBB Division One crown, looking to make it four wins from four when they host Oxford Harlequins next Sunday.
