MATCH REPORT: GREAT SCOTT! JAKE BAGS FOUR IN COLTS WIN

Rich Ashton28 Jan - 11:32

Forwards find the line nine times as visitors topple Quins!

JAKE Scott scored four tries as Rams Colts returned to winning ways with a convincing 53-0 OBB Division One victory at Oxford Harlequins.

Having been knocked out of the National Cup at Rosslyn Park seven days earlier, heavy rain forced a last-minute switch of venues, the league leaders finding this AGP more to their liking.

Indeed, with the rain falling consistently they took control early on, tries from Obi Nwachuku and Cian Tappan giving them a 10-0 lead.

Scott powered over for his first soon after, before impressive second row George Bottomley made a marauding run before Ant Jessett’s lovely tip pass sent captain Aaron Preston over in the left-hand corner.

More good handling and forceful running ended with Scott doubling his tally, this time on the right, before Matt Cox found his range with the boot to extend the advantage to 27-0.

A sixth try arrived before the break, No. 8 Tappan showing pace and power to bounce a couple of would-be defenders as he crossed from some 30 metres out.

The extras were added before the sides headed for shelter, but there was little respite from a Rams team eager to make amends for their cup disappointment.

With their forwards hammering away throughout, it was Scott who wrapped up his hat-trick before Cox landed a third straight kick, the visitors closing on a half-century when another front row, Jayden Benham dotted down out wide.

Cox slotted a fine conversion for 48-0, but Quins remained gallant to the end and were close to getting off the mark on a couple of occasions.

However, their opponents showcased their ruthlessness in keeping them out, and Scott fittingly brought up the half-century and a fourth league success in four – and a third when they have racked up 50 points.

Rams next travel to one of two other unbeaten sides, Amersham & Chiltern, on Sunday, February 9.
