“Fury In Paradise” Beaconsfield 29 Ensians 27

On a cold damp morning Ensians rolled into Beaconsfield “The Good The Bad and the Ugly” came through the mist and tumbleweed to amass on the playing field just like the “Magnificent Sixteen”. Jake the Cavalry Holt” arriving slightly later than anticipated due to the a communications breakdown Ian O. being names the “Outlaw Josie Wales”

Kick-off some 15 minutes late due to some late rallying by the “Indians” (Beaconsfield) to get 15 people on the field.

The Sheriff blew his whistle - 1St minute Ensians get a penalty deep in Indian territory quickly taken by Ensians ball moves to Sharky running a “Bingo” - Callum on the end of that over for a “Fist full of Dollars”. Jamar clearly needing to “rifle” the ball over from the touch line had been passed a sand wedge and lofted the ball well short of the uprights.

After an Indian kick-off Callum takes the ball and offloads to Tom O’Neil running from “The Far Country” runs deep into Indian Territory - Jamar kicks forward however Ensians deemed to be off-side. Penalty conceded. Next a scrum and Ensians looking to take one against the head. Tom L. however has other ideas doing a quick raid on the Indian being caught by the sheriff and we had to “Bite the Bullet” another penalty conceded. 3-5.

KO again Ensians regain through Tom CP “True-Grit” determination to get the ball back – Ensians loose play allows the Indians to kick forward. Jamar circles the wagons and secures Ensians ball deep in our own territory. After another small handling error close in, the Indians get a scrum Ensians again offside The Sheriff awards a penalty. Quick movement by the Indians results in a try to the Indians 10-5.

Ensians kick off- ball in centre of Indian territory Kieran rips through the opposition “high plains rolling” 80 metres down field, scragged into touch by the Indian no.4 Referee not happy with the tackle and administers a 7 minute jail sentence. The magnificent 16 spend 5 minutes camped on the Indian reservation it felt like “High Noon”. Sheriff awards another Ensians penalty - this time quickly taken by “The Three Amigo’s” Tom L. to Jake H to Jamar, Aaron steamed in like a Coyote to score in the corner 10-15.

KO and scrum follows, first sub, James off Charlie on - very colourful undergarments on display it reminded me of “The Guns of Fort Petticoat” - Great scrum - good attack won the kicking battle and again deep into “Indian” territory and into “Rio Grande” (Touch) From the next scrum Jamar charges down follows up collect ball Quick Step, Quick Step “Breakhart Pass” to Kieran who canters over like “a man called horse”. Half Time 10-22

KO into second half Jake H. flattens his opposite number like a “Stagecoach” At this point the editor spots the “The Iron Sheriff” (linesman) playing the Air Guitar – I think it was “Apache” as well as running the wrong way down the touch line. Ensians lose concentration and end up back into their territory. The sheriff awards a penalty to the Indians 15-22. Play resets in the middle of the field and Callum takes the ball like a “pale rider “and with a big clash of heads he becomes very pale and leaves the field. In the meanwhile the Indians have crossed the dust and score 22-22

Ensians try to make something of the restart and the “three Amigo’s” try something different - unfortunately one of the Amigo’s is in front of the kick and the sheriff brings play back for a scrum. Again the Indians make ground in their reservation. For a while it feels like “The Alamo” many errors and a penalty to the Indians. After a good period of defence at “the Alamo” the Indians breakthrough to score 29-22. A good restart by Ensians but the Indians gather and the number 15 seems to be holding us at “Gunpoint”. The Sheriff spotted another misdemeanour at the line-out and another scrum Ensians jamar kicks ahead and chases there is a “Duel at Diablo” and Jamar takes the yellow card, however Ensians win at the line-out and after a series of handling manoeuvres Kieran again Scampers over the line for “A Fist Full of Dollars” 29-27 restart again Ensians are camped on the line but unable to cross for a “Few Dollars More” The sheriff blew for full time but we get 2 bonus points. A tough day at the office. Well stuck at lads we have a long way to go.
