A gutsy day at the office.

A gutsy day at the office.

Sadly we were not able to emulate what the U13's and U 17's have done recently and nick that illusive first win against Newbury.

That said it was a whole hearted and gutsy performance against a side that don't have too many chinks in their armour. Our forwards hustled and harried and whilst our lineout faltered in the early stages our scrummaging was wholesome throughout. Frustratingly the ball seldom reached the hands of Tsang on the wing.

One of the positives from today's performance is the decision making that the squad now exhibit. In the past we may have been tempted to run quick penalties until the cows come home; today with Cox in such good form, points were the priority. Similarly with the lineout faltering a change to shorter lineouts soon played dividends.

The sin binning of Lee mid way through the first half one felt was a tad harsh, to put it mildly. The mood was lifted on 30 minutes when for the first time in our experience the opposition coach was asked to leave the pitch. Plenty to talk about on the sideline!

Sharp once again made his presence felt pretty much everywhere; an industrious flanker to say the least. Cruickshank had another solid, aggressive performance at lock not afraid to take the opposition on at their own game.

Man of the match, and scorer of all 'Ensians points was Cox who gives the side confidence from full back. Strong defensive tackling and a consistently huge right boot both from in hand and from the kicking tee are great to watch. The points tally resulting from 3 well struck penalties.

Hats off to the squad whose heads never dropped.
