It was clear from their web site that Dunstablians were a class outfit and so it transpired as the home side had a "tough day at the office!"
Whilst it would appear to have been one way traffic there were a several positives to be drawn out of this match. On several occasions the backs called moves which they executed well. With a little more depth and speed, these will threaten the gain line, but at least we are beginning to give it a go.
A handful of players made some cracking tackles with Paterson and McCrory exhibiting the bruises of battle after the match, Jones snuffing out a couple of penalty moves, Webb tackling low and hard around the fringes, Wild making several try saving tackles against players twice his size and Dolton receiving a cuff from the opposition No 5 after bringing him to ground. Sadly this was out of sight of the referee.
Tackling generally was very poor with too many players sticking out a hopeful arm in the general direction of the opposition or attempting to tackle anywhere but below the waist.
Time and time again in these situations Wild shows that a correctly timed tackle will bring down a player of any size.
Well done to players of the day Dalton and debutant Stevens.
