Ensians shine in the sun at Tadley

Redingensians U15s v Tadley – 30th September

We kicked off and had a line out deep in the Tadley half. Unfortunately a penalty resulted against us and we found ourselves defending 2 scrums in our 22. A fly hack from Tadley was touched down for a try, and the penalty converted.

Max, despite playing in the pack kicked onto the touch line in the Tadley corner. Dan Veitch scored from the line out. Max then drop kicked the conversion, which raised Redingensians spirits enormously.

A scrum led to a very strong run from the Tadley 10, who ran through mid-field and scored under the posts. Converted.

Phil received the ball on the right wing 20 yards out and beat a few players but narrowly failed to get over the line. A more obvious second movement would be hard to duplicate, and a penalty resulted. (sorry Phil).

Max then had a second drop kick penalty that narrowly missed.

A difficult first half but new blood of George, Liam, Callum, Alex Crocker and Canham, Ryan and Charlie left the parents feeling confident that things were about to change. Alex Crocker started to provide quick ball from the rucks and scrums, which gave the backs a good platform to run through the spaces that were starting to appear. Good passing quickly down the line led to a good try from Ryan.

Callum had a typical bullocking run, and made good ground until he was brought down, resulting in a short break for treatment.

Another good scrum from Redingensians led to a good back move all down the line. The resultant ruck led to a fine first Redingensians try by Matt Cunningham-Wise.

By now our back line was looking threatening every time they had the ball and Alex Canham was looking very assured at fly half. After some pressure on left wing Liam ran in his second.

Ben had a good game and managed to steal the ball on Tadley ball in the lineouts a number of times.

George had a good run and was stopped just short, but quick ball from the ruck then led to Matt’s second try.

Liam scored scored a try after receiving a pass from Ryan over the goal line.

Yannick (at 15) picked up a deep kick in our half and made good ground linking with Liam.
Zack had a couple of runs up right wing and managed to make good progress tight against the touchline.

Dan Veitch ran in his second try. I think Max converted this one.

A little later Yannick picked up another kick deep in our half and ran 60 yards trading passes with Liam again and scored a well deserved try.

As the half ran into the 35th minute Tadley scored a consolation try, which was just reward for keeping going to the end and enduring wave after wave of Redingensians’ attacks.
