Bournemouth R.F.C. U15’s 28 – 7 Redingensians R.F.C. Under 15’s 27th January 2013.

A lovely morning out near the seaside greeted all those who had headed down the motorway, some parents deciding to dispense with the sat-navs & relying on directions finally arrived. Full use was made of the catering facilities with the splendid bacon rolls being appreciated by all those who sampled them.
So with Ensians kicking off & playing into a stiff wind, Bournemouth gathered the ball & was able to set up some good possession by retaining the ball through several phases. Their left winger looked certain to score in the corner but for a try saving tackle by Zack forcing him into touch. From the line-out as the Bournemouth backs had the ball some pressure from Ensians backs caused what was to be the first of many knock on’s.
From a Bournemouth scrum the ball was recycled a few phases & again a player looked certain to score, but a tackle by Ben Espley which stopped him in his tracks & then assisted by Yannic who manhandled him over the touchline behind the try line. Thus ensuring the game restarted with a drop out 22.
Bournemouth secured a ball from their line-out & a driving maul was set up, when the ball was released to their backs an inside ball to the centre & with 2 steps was over the line for the opening score. The conversion was good for a lead of 7-0.
The game was scrappy with plenty of dropped passes being the norm, (was this due to the hands being cold from the bighting wind that was sweeping down the pitch?).
From a tap penalty George made the 1st of his charging runs, but unfortunately there never seemed to be anyone in support. The ball was turned over & their No. 10 cleared downfield making full use of the wind. The ball was recovered by Yannic who made & strong run up field & was able to pop the pass to Colm who was forced into touch.
Bournemouth again set the maul up & the ball went through several phases & their No.3 powered over for the try which was converted to lead 14-0.
Bournemouth was now making their possession count, as after several phases they scored again despite the best effort of Samuel. The conversion was good , so as the ref blew for half-time with Bournemouth leading 21-0.
With some substitutions made for the 2nd half hopes were high for a come back especially with the wind at their backs. However the boys just couldn’t seem to get their game going , with the pattern of the first half repeating itself. Too many dropped balls & knock-on’s thus surrendering possession away. The scrum, as we have become accustomed to expect was rock solid, so the platform was there for the TEAM to use.
Bournemouth were making far less handling errors with ball in hand , so whilst playing into the wind this meant they kept possession better. After a few phases a step inside by their centre ensured another try with a successful conversion to lead 28-0.
It was at this point that the boys decided to play some error free rugby. So possession was retained & ground was made up field. After plenty of ball through hands & a few phases it looked like Matt was going to score. The ref said he was held up over the line, & then for some weird reason decided to give the put in at the scrum to Bournemouth. As the pressure came on from the boys their No.9 tried to pass whilst going backwards, under pressure from Alex Crocker who grabbed the ball first & used all of his reach to get the ball down for the try. Conor converted from the touch line using the wind to curl the ball between the uprights.
From the ensuing kick-off the ball was caught by George who went charging up field, as he was tackled he popped it to Liam who ran hard & straight & off loaded to Zack. At the break down Jason picked up & made plenty of ground & passed to Liam who was finding some holes to run into.
The ball was knocked-on & the ref blew for full time with Bournemouth winning 28-7.
The game was played in a good spirit by both teams, with both sides trying to play running rugby. The defensive tackling by both sides would have pleased their respective coaches.
Plenty for the boys to work on during the week.
