Windsor Festival vs Redingensians R.F.C.

The high standards of opposition that we have grown to expect at Windsor delivered the usual early season baptism of fire! The Under 10s found themselves in the group of death and unfortunately lost all of our matches. This was difficult for the players to take as they had tried really hard and played some of their best rugby, but overall it was a fun day and we’ve learned a lot about what lies ahead for the rest of the season.

In spite of the continuous rain, most people stayed in pretty good spirits. Steve Manning (Lewis’ dad) was our newly qualified ‘ensians referee and he bravely got stuck into his first tournament of reffing. The good news is he seemed to enjoy it, so hopefully we have our ref for the season.

In terms of matches, Roslyn Park at our age group have never lost a match at Windsor and won the Under 10s tournament again. They beat everyone in the group convincingly, including us. However, in each of other games we lost by just one score which is not bad at all considering we had Teddington and Fullerians in the group.

Our final match (with players wet and tired) was a thriller against local rivals Maidenhead. It was a cracker to watch and both teams played their best rugby of the day. The score was tied at 1-1 for most of the game … a score I think would have been a fair final result, but Maidenhead just edged it to go 2-1 with a last minute try.

Overall, a great effort by the whole squad and lots of lessons learned.
