Reading RFC vs Redingensians

Many thanks to Reading RFC for inviting us at short notice to an impromptu Under 10s festival over the road at Holme Park. With no fixture in the diary this week, we were delighted to accept the chance to play against some of the other best clubs in the area … Reading, Beaconsfield, Abbey, Bracknell, London Irish and Swindon.

This was the first time since we were Under 7s that we have taken 2 teams to a festival and there is no doubt at all that the whole squad benefited from the game time. Every single player played their best rugby of the season and I loved seeing the steady string of extremely close and competitively fought matches with local rivals.

This is just what we needed – some cracking games, all played in the sunshine. Once again lots of lessons learnt. The coaching team was particularly delighted with our defensive performance, with the guys’ grit and determination making sure that no-one except Beaconsfield scored more than one try against us.

In fact Beaconsfield were very strong and went on to win the tournament, but honours were largely shared between the local Berkshire clubs which bodes well for a competitive season ahead.

What a great day and a sign that the team has already improved since Windsor Festival. Looking forward to Newbury in 2 weeks time and a busy schedule of games in November and December.
