LUCY Simpson’s terrific start to the year continued after she was called into an England Under 20s squad for the first time.
The hooker is part of a 32-woman three-day training camp which met at Bisham Abbey yesterday, with another to be held at Loughborough University from February 3-6.
Lucy, who is the most successful girl to come through the Rams’ Minis and Juniors’ has played for England at U18 and U19 level in the past two years, and scored her first Women’s Premiership try for Gloucester-Hartpury earlier this month.
England head coach LJ Lewis said: “We’re delighted to confirm the first squad of the season after some time away from action in camp. Selection has been a diligent and challenging process, and I want to congratulate all involved this week.
“The performances of the included players for their clubs have been incredibly encouraging and all the staff are eager to get involved with a very promising group.
“The training camps scheduled in the coming months are designed to reward that form and to take a step into international rugby for these young players.
“From Monday and through to the summer, our expectations will remain at the very top standard as we look to elevate our processes with intensity, mindset and bonding as a unit.”
