NATIONAL ONE ROUND-UP - WEEK NINE

Rich Ashton12 Nov 2024 - 12:30

Club, Titans, Richmond, Park, DMP and Esher all successful!

BLACKHEATH climbed to fourth as they edged out Sale 31-27 for a third straight win.

A Billy Harding try put Club in front before the Dogs rallied through Tom Walsh, Will Hunt with the extras.

Jake Hennessey, Harding and Jordan Burns all went over for the hosts, Tom Ffitch with two conversions for 24-7, but Hunt was again on target after Stone Priestley-Nangle touched down to cut the gap to 10 at the break.

Two Hunt penalties and a converted Walsh second had Sale 27-24 up, but Ffitch slotted after Leo Fielding crossed to seal the deal for Blackheath.

Second-placed Richmond remain unbeaten following their 42-14 Friday Night Lights home success against Birmingham Moseley.

Callum Grieve converted an Alex O’Meara try to put the Londoners in front, only for Mose to hit back as Tommy Taylor was on target following Tuoyo Egodo’s five-pointer.

A Richmond blitz saw them score 22 points in the last 12 minutes of the first half – Luc Jones, Christian Freeman and O’Meara add dotting down as Grieve added seven with the boot.

Egodo doubled his tally to cut the gap, Taylor making it two from two, but further tries from James Langston and Callum Torpey, plus another Grieve penalty, completed the scoring.

Lloyd Hayes kicked a final-play penalty as Rotherham Titans squeezed past visitors Plymouth Albion 18-17.

The Devonians hit the front as Rhys Williams went over, Tom Putt with the kick, only for Roth to level through Luke Cole and Hayes.

Rob Povey’s intercept try gave the hosts a 12-7 half-time lead, but a penalty try and Putt kick had Plymouth in front until Hayes’ last-gasp intervention.

Rosslyn Park made it six wins on the spin as they topple Bishop’s Stortford 18-15 at The Rock.

A Jack Biard try put the visitors in front before Park hit back, a Josh Bragman penalty and Benji Marfo five-pointer making it 8-5 at the break.

Rosslyn pulled clear as Jordan Martin and Rhys Charalambous crossed, but Stortford rallied late on through Chris Bolton and Tom Mills, the hosts ultimately able to hang on.

Bottom side Darlington Mowden Park picked up a first win with a 36-29 home triumph against fellow strugglers Leicester Lions.

Luke Bouchier kicked an early penalty for the visitors before DMP turned on the style, Marcus Tiffen, Max Fraine, Alfie Barron and Harry Hadfield all crossing the whitewash as Jos Ree landed three conversions for 26-3 at the break.

Lions responded with Bouchier adding to tries from Jake Sterland and Theo Mannion, only for a converted Yaree Fantini effort to put Mowden 33-17 up before Ahren Crowley’s debut score kept Leicester in it.

A Ree penalty gave Park breathing space, and despite the away side securing two bonus points via a converted Johnny Murdoch effort, they could not gain anything more.

Esher recorded a second win of the season with a 51-32 home win against Dings Crusaders.

The two sides exchanged converted tries in the first quarter, Josh Thorne over for the Eees before Harry Tarling crossed, Tom Walker and Fin Fielder adding the extras.

Walker landed a penalty before adding to an Ed Volley score for 17-7, Dings staying in touch as Tom Gollop dotted down and Fielder added a three-pointer.

Ben Robbins went over for the hosts shortly before the interval, Walker and Fielder then exchanging penalties to leave the score 25-18 to Esher.

But Gollop then completed his hat-trick with two quick-fire converted tries, only for Esher to stage a remarkable rally which saw them tot up 26 unanswered points in the final 13 minutes.

Tom Spiers got things going before Walker added the extras, Robbins, Harry Faulkner and Jake Morris also crossing with two more conversions sealing the deal.

Rams, meanwhile, overcame a poor start to beat Sedgley Park 40-22.
