PADDY AND HARRY PICK UP LOUIE BATCHELOR COACHING GONG!

Rich Ashton17 May 2022 - 11:30

Titans duo recognised for their efforts at presentation evening!

TITANS pair Paddy Conlon and Harry Stapleton received the Louie Batchelor Memorial Trophy for Coaching on the back of their sterling efforts at Rams’ end-of-season presentation night.

The duo oversaw one of the Titans’ best seasons as they finished sixth in Division One of the Raging Bull Shield, while also leading their side to impressive friendly victories against the second string of the likes of Taunton Titans and Tonbridge Juddians, as well as Oxford University.

Highlights of the season included the 29-22 success at home to Richmond Saxons, along with the dramatic 70-42 victory at Barnes 2nd XV late in the season.

Paddy is due to take a sabbatical next season having signed off in style with the Titans winning 73-12 at Henley Bulls, but his efforts in helping build depth in the Senior Squad were appropriately recognised by Roger Batchelor as he presented the trophy.

The former Havant and Chinnor man has proved a popular figure at Old Bath Road and also stole the show alongside Ash Rowden in the first National One game to be live-streamed through the league’s website, the pair providing wonderful commentary as Rams overcame Chinnor 38-22 under the Friday Night Lights back in March.

The forwards coach – a massive U2 fan who lists Thai food as a favourite and James Baker as his top Rams’ player – said his proudest achievement was helping players progress from the Titans into the first XV, with the likes of Paul Englezos, Max Hayman, Spencer Hayhow and Vince Everitt among the young guns who graduated this year.

Meanwhile, former Colt Harry, who was part of the Colts’ side which reached the National Cup Final back in 2011, has developed into a highly talented backs/skills coach since joining the Senior Squad set-up.

Among the players he has helped come through during the current campaign are fly-halves Steffan James, Rowan Grundy and Sam Nicholls, alongside centre Axel Kalling-Smith and back three men Charlie Robson and Will Janes.

*Congratulations to both Paddy and Harry are sent from all the Ramily!
