Sensational Stortford game, Title sealed at Clifton, Hendo double, brilliant Brooks, Chandler and Flynn dazzle and much more!

Rams 35-31 Bishop’s Stortford (February 8, 2020)

Rams ended a run of two consecutive home defeats and also broke their Bishop’s Stortford hoodoo by beating the Hertfordshire side for the first time in six attempts in a cracker.

It was the away side who made a dream start as George Cullen converted Will Palombo’s close-range try on four minutes, but Rams rallied in fine style with Stevie Bryant, Jamie Guttridge and Drew Humberstone all crossing the whitewash, the latter deadly from the tee to make it 21-7.

A Chris Smith try reduced the deficit, but Rams wrapped up the bonus-point before the break as Conor Corrigan dotted down and Humberstone improved the score to leave his side 28-12 to the good.

Yet Stortford replied with two quick tries early in the second period, Smith doubling his tally and Cullen knocking over the extras to a Jake Morris try to cut the gap to four.

And it was the away side who hit the front with a little more than 10 minutes remaining as Nick Hankin crossed in the corner, Cullen landing a terrific kick to push his side three points in front.

Rams were not to be denied, however, and once again utilised their powerful pack to earn a penalty try and the hard-fought bragging rights.

Clifton 21-45 Rams (April 6, 2019)

Seven-try Rams sealed National Two South glory with two games to spare as a seven-try blitz secured victory in Bristol.

The visitors went in front against the run of play when Alex Seers converted an Andrew Denham effort towards the end of the first quarter, and they extended their advantage when Sean McDonnell-Roberts powered over.

However, Clifton rallied with Luke Cozens adding the extras to tries from Sam Goatley and Shek Sheriff to move two points in front.

It was Rams who went into the break in front, though, Ben Henderson going over at the back of the trademark rolling maul before Seers landed an excellent touchline conversion.

The pack began to dominate in the second period and Jamie Guttridge scored at the back of a pushover before Craig Nightingale’s effort – again added to by Seers – made it 31-14 just after the hour-mark.

A converted Jack Williams try gave Clifton a consolation, but it was the champions who had the last word, substitute Jak Rossiter scoring twice in the final four minutes to add a further gloss to the scoreline on a memorable day.

Rams 47-19 Broadstreet (October 14, 2017)

Visitors Broadstreet put up a brave fight, but eventually succumbed to Rams as the hosts ran in seven tries.

Tom Humberstone converted Ben Henderson’s early try before Broadstreet replied through an Andy Murray try.

Wasps loanee Jacob Umaga looked dangerous for the visitors, but it was man-of-the-match Matt Weller who pushed Rams further in front on the stroke of half-time, the prop going over to make it 12-5 at the interval.

Rams’ fifth penalty try of the season pushed the advantage to 19-5, only for Nick Thatcher to hit back for Broadstreet.

The ebb-and-flow nature of the contest continued as Greg Illingworth crossed for the hosts’ bonus-point score, only for Connor Eastgate to go over and reduce the arrears to 26-19 with 20 minutes remaining.

However, Rams dominated the final quarter, adding further converted tries from Henderson, Illingworth and Olly Foxley to wrap up what eventually proved a comfortable win.

Redruth 33-33 Rams (April 30, 2016)

Rams’ legends Jez Flynn and Spike Chandler starred as their side ended their first season in National Two South with a thrilling draw in Cornwall.

Chandler’s third-minute penalty put the visitors in front before David Mankee added the extras to a Lewis Vinnicombe try.

Steve Bryant crossed to put Rams in front before Vinnicombe replied, but it was the away side who went into the break with a 20-14 advantage after Flynn sniped over for his 101st league try in his first game for three seasons and Chandler converted and added a penalty.

A Tom Cowan-Dickie try cut the gap to a point before Chandler kicked his third penalty, only for Redruth to grab a penalty try and a 26-23 lead.

However, Jake Knowles’ first try for Rams and a Jamie Guttridge score gave them a seven-point lead, only for the Cornishmen to rescue a share of the spoils when Mankee held his nerve to add the extras to a late Brad Howe finish.

Old Redcliffians 15-51 Rams (November 15, 2014)

A stunning kicking display from James Brooks – who landed nine from nine – gave Rams a comfortable victory in Bristol.

He landed three early penalties to put his side 9-0 up, and they moved further in front when Andy Amor crossed from close range.

Henry Bird crossed for the hosts before Ben Henderson dotted down following an outrageous dummy. Jack Steer’s penalty for Old Reds reduced the arrears to 23-8 at the break.

With Reds reduced to 14 men, Jamie Guttridge scored two quick-fire tries to put the game to bed, and while Ethan Doyle grabbed a second try for the home side, further scores from Joe Duffelen and a penalty try brought up the half-century for the away side.

Rams 5-61 Abbey (March 4, 2000)

Jez Flynn scored Rams’ only try on a tough afternoon against Abbey.
