TOP-SCORING GAMES NO. 23 - 67

Rich Ashton19 Feb 2021 - 16:55

Dings blitzed, Guernsey stroll, Clifton cracker, survival secured, Flynn hat-trick and plenty more!

Dings Crusaders 19-48 Rams (March 2, 2019)

Rams continued their charge towards the National Two South title with an eight-try blitz in Bristol including a sensational individual score from hooker Ben Henderson.

It was actually the home team who opened the scoring thanks to a Matt Smith try superbly converted from the touchline by Steve Plummer, but Rams rallied spectacularly as Henderson bagged brace – the second after he collected his own chip ahead – Andrew Denham crossed and a penalty try was earned.

With Alex Seers adding a conversion, the visitors led 24-7 at the break, and they moved further ahead early in the second period when a beautiful Seers’ cross-kick was collected by Conor Corrigan for his side’s fifth try.

Smith’s second score reduced the arrears, but Corrigan matched his effort – again thanks to a Seers’ kick – before two late Denham tries gave him a hat-trick and Rams a 48-12 advantage.

Dings had the final say when hooker Thomas Anderson touched down, but it was far too little, too late.

Guernsey 8-59 Rams (February 2, 2019)

Rams extended their club-record winning streak to 17 matches with a convincing nine-try success at injury-hit Raiders.

They took a second-minute lead when Alex Seers converted Jamie Guttridge’s try, and they had a bonus-point wrapped up by the break thanks to further efforts from Conor Corrigan, Joe Duffelen and Greg Illingworth.

With Owen Thomas having kicked a 25th-minute penalty, Guernsey trailed 24-3 at the break, and things got worse for them in the second period when Seers added the extras to tries from Ben Henderson, Joe Duffelen and Conor Corrigan.

There was a high point for the hosts just after the hour mark, though, as prop Layton Batiste grabbed a try.

However, Rams responded and added two late scores through Ross Crame and Guttridge, Tom Humberstone slotting a brace of conversions.

Rams 41-26 Clifton (April 1, 2017)

Fans were treated to a 10-try bonanza as Rams and Clifton played out an entertaining clash at Old Bath Road.

The hosts took the lead through a seventh-minute penalty try converted by Sam Guttridge, albeit Clifton hit back almost immediately when Brad Barnes improved Andrew Chesters’ effort.

A Guttridge penalty restored the Rams lead, but they then had to weather an almighty 20-minute storm as the Bristolians laid siege to their line, ultimately repelling the attacks and grabbing a try of their own through James Baker before Robbie Stapley’s effort just before the break, added to by Guttridge, made it 22-7 at the break.

They surged further clear with converted scores from Miles Lloyd and Craig Nightingale, only for Barnes to nudge two points onto Sam Harrison’s score.

Jak Rossiter’s try just after the hour-mark put the game to bed and had Rams 41-14 in front, but it was Clifton who fought back and gained a deserved bonus-point thanks to scores from Tom Pinker and Will Pomphrey.

Rams 17-50 Taunton (October 24, 2009)

Gus Davies bagged a brace and Craig Clements also crossed the whitewash for the home side, but despite Spike Chandler adding a conversion, Rams were heavily beaten.

Rams 53-14 Bournemouth (April 15, 2000)

Rodney Hutson grabbed a hat-trick as Gensians finished their Southern Counties South season in style with a 53-14 home win against Bournemouth.

Also on the try list were Jez Flynn, Micky Bell, Simon Henderson, Phill Trott and Greg Way, who dotted down twice and also landed four conversions.

North Dorset 26-41 Rams (March 13, 1999)

Jez Flynn’s hat-trick helped Redingensians win 41-26 at North Dorset to help them avoid relegation from Southern Counties South.

They clinched their fourth successive league victory after taking a 26-7 interval lead.

Flynn’s brother Nick along with Rob Hancock, Micky Bell and Greg Way also crossed – the latter also landing three conversions.

Rams 52-14 Harrow Extra A (April 20, 1996)

Ryan Telfer and Frankie Richardson grabbed two tries apiece and there were further efforts from Jez Flynn, Brown, Phil Trott and Chris Hodgson in an eight-try cruise, Andy Appleton completing the scoring with six conversions.

Rams 15-52 Maidenhead (January 5, 1975)

Redingensians suffered a heavy defeat in this Berkshire derby.
