Hayhow and Rossiter star at Canterbury, 12-try Worthing thriller, four tries for Seb against Maidenhead, Blandford rout and more!

Canterbury 22-48 Rams (November 23, 2019)

Connor Hayhow and Jak Rossiter led the way with two tries apiece as Rams eased past the side they had secured promotion with from National Two South.

The visitors made a perfect start with Jamie Guttridge going over in the first minute, and despite Dan Smart landing a penalty, Rams had taken complete control inside 10 minutes with Hayhow and Tom Vooght also dotting down.

Tristan King pulled a try back for the home side thanks to some quick-thinking from Smart, but Rossiter and Jack Moates crossed before Tyler Oliver’s converted score for the hosts left them trailing 29-17 at the end of an entertaining first period.

Hayhow’s second try on 55 minutes reaffirmed the visitors’ control, although Charlie Grimes did grab a third for Canterbury.

However, Drew Humberstone – who also landed four conversions during the afternoon – and Rossiter with his second, completed the scoring and gave their side an immediate response following the Old Elthamians defeat the week before.

Rams 43-27 Worthing (April 22, 2017)

The last home game of the 2016/17 season provided a 12-try thriller for the Old Bath Road faithful.

Jacob Atkins converted Ross Crame’s opening score, only for Kiba Richards to reduce the deficit to two points for the away side.

However, by the half-hour mark, Rams had taken control, Greg Illingworth, Ben Henderson and Conor Corrigan, all going over and Atkins improving the latter two to push his side 26-5 to the good.

Yet with Hooker Joe Watson-Brooks and winger Finlay Coxon-Smith both scoring tries and Matt McLean converting the second, Raiders had cut the gap to nine by the break.

Henderson’s second gave Rams some breathing space, but Worthing continued to battle valiantly and reduced the deficit to just five points with Harry Forest and Watson-Brooks dotting down.

However, the hosts regrouped and scored two tries through Robbie Stapley – the first converted by Spike Chandler – to dispel any worries and secure the victory.

Rams 62-8 Maidenhead (March 13, 2010)

Seb Reynolds grabbed four tries in Rams’ runaway victory over doomed Maidenhead.

Yet it was a somewhat hollow success at Old Bath Road as basement side Maids, with only two replacements, played most of the second half with 14 men and ended with 13.

It was Reynolds’ first senior hat-trick, while Peter Freeth weighed in with 22 points – a try, penalty and seven conversions.

Other try-scorers were skipper Simon Parfitt, Nick Dewland and Owen Root.

Blandford 5-65 Rams (April 17, 1999)

An 11-try rout saw Rodney Hutson, Jez Flynn and Micky Bell all cross twice for the away side, with Steenkamp, Frankie Richardson, Julian Lidstone, Rob Hancock and Greg Way also getting their names on the scoresheet.

Way added to his tally with three conversions, while Dave Cox added a brace.

Rams 15-55 Old Merchant Taylors (September 6, 1997)

Redingensians were overpowered by visitors Old Merchant Taylors in the second half at Sonning.

They led 15-12 five minutes before the break, but OMT’s took control as prop John Rumble and Paul Tatum went off injured for the home side.

The scorers for Rams were Ian Angell and JJ Bell with tries, and Dave Cox with a conversion and penalty.
