CHINNOR CLASHES - NO. 11: CHINNOR 36-14 RAMS

Rich Ashton12 May 2021 - 17:00

Illingworth and Collis on the scoresheet for the visitors!

As we look back to finally returning to the field of play against our neighbours and National One rivals Chinnor, we will take a look back over some classic encounters before May 22.

No. 11) Chinnor 36-14 Rams (September, 2017)

Rams slipped to a second defeat in four National Three South West fixtures as they went down to a Chinnor side which would go on to secure promotion to National One.

It was actually the visitors who took a seventh-minute lead when scrum-half Greg Illingworth burst clear and dotted down under the posts, Tom Humberstone knocking over the extras.

Chinnor levelled matters at the start of the second period when flanker George Oliver went over and Jonny Bentley added the extras, and the Kiwi was also on target to make it 14-7 after scoring his side’s second try.

Rams rallied, however, and a slick handling move was finished off just before the break by Josh Collis, Humberstone converting to make it 14-14 at half-time.

And while the visitors dominated the early part of the second period, they were repelled by some outstanding Chinnor defence.

The home side then added further tries through Oliver, Rhys Lawrence and Henry Lamont, and with Bentley kicking two conversions and a penalty, they secured a hard-fought bonus-point victory.

The List:

15) Chinnor 12-5 Rams (September, 2010)
14) Chinnor 22-10 Rams (September 2011)
13) Chinnor 16-10 Rams (January, 2017)
12) Rams 17-32 Chinnor (October, 2016)
