Summary:
It was back in January, 2001 that a teenage Spike first landed a league kick, knocking over a penalty and conversion to help Rams to a 20-20 draw at Ivel Barbarians.
Having helped the side to the Southern Counties South title by the end of the season, Spike was top-scorer for the first time the following year, landing 127 which included a club-record 26 in the end-of-season victory at Olney, made up of his sole career hat-trick, four conversions and a penalty.
Returning in 2006/07, he enjoyed a brilliant campaign as Rams won South West Two East, banging over 78 successful shots at goal in a season when he broke his own record for points in a season with 216.
Spike went onto be at the top of the charts for the next four campaigns as he totalled 138, 173, 84 and 128, and amazingly he also led the way in Rams’ maiden season in National Two South.
He became the first and only Rams player to date to break through the 1,000-point mark during the 26-21 home win against Southend, albeit he then had to go off immediately after landing the conversion.
Spike kept adding to his tally before his last effort, a conversion at Redruth 16 years after his first points, left him with the amazing haul of 1,108 – made up of 25 tries, 223 conversions, 170 penalties and nine drop goals - and contributed against more than 50 opposition!
