Summary:

Micky’s first score came way back in November, 1989, when he touched down in a 17-14 defeat at Henley in a South West Two campaign which ended with Redingensians finishing in a lowly 11th position.

After spent time playing at a higher level with Harlequins and London Welsh, Micky returned to Old Bath Road at the start of the 1997/98 with Rams having been relegated to Berkshire, Dorset & Wiltshire One at the end of the previous campaign.

He made an immediate impact by scoring the visitors’ only try in the 10-9 opener at Tadley, Dave Cox’s conversion and penalty sealing the win, and went onto score against Calne (43-3), Thatcham (43-15) and Melksham (39-12) as Rams made an immediate return to Southern Counties South thanks to a runners-up finish Micky’s nephew, JJ, finishing as the top try-scorer!

His most prolific campaign came the season after, during which he crossed the whitewash on 12 occasions, including four doubles.

He grabbed his first try on the opening day as Rams put visitors North Dorset to the sword 61-11, following up with a brace against Swindon (27-10) in the fourth game of the campaign.

He was on the scoresheet in a 34-12 reverse at Devizes, but made it four against Swindon with another couple in the return fixture, his side successful 26-5.

He scored his side’s only points in the 5-3 win against Tadley and added another in the next game at North Dorset (41-26).

Further doubles against Devizes (38-12) and Blandford (65-5) meant he finished as second top try-scorer behind Rodney Hutson, Rams ending the season in seventh place.

They continued to improve the following year to grab third place as Micky added another six tries – all in winning performances – against Swindon College Old Boys home and away (74-20 and 50-10), Ivel Barbarians (32-0), Windsor (24-5), Wimborne (19-13) and Bournemouth (53-14).

Micky’s final eight tries came in the 2000/01 season, when Rams won Southern Counties South to reach the dizzy heights of South West Two East.

In the second game of the campaign, he touched down in a hard-fought 18-16 triumph at home to Wootton Bassett, adding another in a tense 15-12 success against Salisbury.

He bagged a brace in a 20-20 draw with Ivel Barbarians, and then scored in a 17-5 home win against Wimborne.

Two more came in a 58-18 thrashing of Corsham, before his last score came in a 35-0 victory at Swindon College Old Boys when Jez Flynn (2), Greg Way, brother Tim and Ian Angell also dotted down, and Spike Chandler added five points with the boot.

Two games later, a 20-14 success against Bournemouth secured the title during a season when Rams were only beaten once in 16 league matches.
