Summary:

Azza’s first try for Rams came while he was still a teenager as he crossed in a 37-19 reverse at Oxford Harlequins back in December 2009, the club’s maiden season in National Three South West.

Becoming more of a regular the following season, he became something of a talisman as he crossed the whitewash five times – at home to Chinnor (17-16), Exmouth (28-7), Old Patesians (56-15), Weston-super-Mare (27-23) and Barnstaple (48-24) – with Rams victorious every time he went over.

That record continued the following season with tries at Weston-super-Mare (52-23), Amersham & Chiltern (56-5) and Newbury (46-6), although it was finally snapped in November 2012 when Azza scored in the 32-25 defeat at Old Patesians – ironically the team he had the most success against!

His other try in the 2012/13 campaign came at home to Chippenham, when Rams ran out 29-18 winners.

Azza’s most successful try-scoring season came in 2013/14, when his side finished as runners-up and he was top try-scorer.

He opened his account for the season in the 30-10 victory at Brixham in the third game of the season, and despite missing time with a hamstring injury, he then grabbed a brace against the same opposition during a hard-fought 22-17 success at Old Bath Road in the opening game of 2014.

He went over in the following two weeks at Chippenham (29-12) and Lydney (32-32), and again a fortnight later as Rams defeated visitors Old Redcliffians 31-11.

His seventh of the season arrived in a 35-17 triumph at Weston-super-Mare, and he grabbed a brace at Barnstaple in a 42-3 cruise at home to Barnstaple as Rams set-up an end-of-season play-off at Old Elthamians.

And despite his and James Baker’s best efforts, Rams were made to wait until the following year for promotion as OEs ground out a 17-10 win.

It was in 2014/15 the Sonning men finally claimed the National Three South West title, and Azza played a key part with six tries.

His first came in the impressive 52-17 triumph at Chard, while he also dotted down in a tough 24-20 home win against Old Pats.

He completed a seasonal double as Chard were smashed 64-7 at Old Bath Road, and as Rams really kicked on, he did the same in the 67-17 rout of hosts Old Patesians.

His penultimate effort came in a straight-forward 65-5 victory at Oxford Harlequins, and he was also on the scoresheet in arguably Rams’ most important victory at that stage – the 37-7 win at Exmouth which sealed the title in a top-of-the-table clash.

Having played a key part in their rise to National Two South, Azza grabbed one try – fittingly in their first win at that level – when visitors Worthing were repelled 28-10.
