TOP-SCORING GAMES NO. 19 - 71

Rich Ashton24 Feb 2021 - 16:55

An 11-try tussle with TJs, Chard crushed, Brixham belter, doubles galore against Old Pats and plenty more!

Tonbridge Juddian 24-47 Rams (October 7, 2017)

Rams scored seven of the 11 tries in this cracker as TJs lock Mark Davey grabbed a hat-trick and still ended up on the losing side.

A fine early effort from Conor Corrigan was followed up by a penalty try and a converted Stevie Bryant score as Rams took a 19-0 lead into the break, and they wrapped up the bonus-point 12 minutes into the second period when Tom Humberstone added the extras to Tom Vooght’s try.

The kicker improved a Jordan Souter score to make it 33-0, but the hosts hit back in impressive fashion as two Davey tries and another from Michael O’Sullivan in the space of 10 minutes cut the gap to 33-17 after Nathan Holmes had added a conversion.

Rams regrouped, though, and put the game to bed with a couple of quick-fire seven-pointers of their own, Jak Rossiter and Souter crossing the whitewash, before Davey completed his treble and earned the hosts a deserved bonus-point with an injury-time score.

Rams 64-7 Chard (January 10, 2015)

Nine-try Rams continued their charge towards the National Three South West title with a dominant performance at Old Bath Road.

A buccaneering first half saw the hosts take a 38-0 advantage into the break after Stevie Bryant, Luke Flower, Azza Hopkins, Gavin Dampies and Dave Massey all dotted down and James Brooks added five conversions and a penalty.

They continued where they left off three minutes into the second period with a converted Jamie Guttridge score, only for Chard to take advantage of Jamie Hughes’ sin-binning to get their only points of the afternoon, a Luke Aplin try converted by Max Hayward.

However, Rams finished with a flourish as Dampies bagged a brace and Bryant also completed his, Brooks adding a couple of kicks to take his personal haul to 19 points.

Rams 49-22 Brixham (November 29, 2014)

The hosts moved six points clear at the National Three South West table summit following a seven-try success in this battle of the top two.

An early James Brooks penalty was followed up by converted scores from Joe Duffelen, skipper Andy Amor and James Hughes as Rams went 24-0 in front.

However, Brixham hit back after Luke Flower was yellow carded, Declan Sexton and Tom McLean going over and Ben Lovell adding the extras to cut the deficit to 10 points.

Yet it was 32-14 by the break as Stevie Bryant crossed for the bonus-point try and Brooks kicked a second penalty.

After Lovell and Brooks exchanged penalties, a penalty try for the hosts early in the final quarter made it 42-17 and effectively ended the contest, and Rams made a final statement when Jamie Guttridge touched down at the back of a remarkable 15-metre pushover scrum.

Despite trailing 49-17 after that dis-heartening moment, the away side did claim a late consolation from wing Matt Crooscombe.

Rams 56-15 Old Patesians (March 5, 2011)

Doubles from Robbie Stapley, Seb Reynolds, Criag Clements and further tries from Jez Flynn, Connor Stapley and Azza Hopkins, added to by four Shaun Brown conversions and a penalty, guided Rams to this convincing home win.

Chesham 5-66 Rams (August 29, 1999)

A convincing pre-season friendly success!

Rams 61-10 Littlemore (February 7, 1998)

Bucks & Oxon visitors Littlemore were outplayed in this friendly, Rams running in nine tries.

They led 35-0 at the interval and added four more after the break as Jason McMahon (two), Dave Layder, Barry Gould, Greg Frost, Julian Lidstone, Micky Bell, JJ Bell and Dave Cox all breached the opponents’ defence, the latter landing an impressive eight conversions.
