TOP-SCORING GAMES NO. 20 (PART TWO) - 70

Early-season Worthing thriller, Quins thrashed as Rams close on title, Clements' treble against Buckingham, Carroll hat-trick and plenty more!

Worthing 30-40 Rams (September 16, 2017)

Robbie Stapley bagged a brace as six-try Rams enjoyed success in Sussex following a topsy-turvey encounter.

An early Matt McLean penalty gave the hosts the lead, only for Tom Humberstone to convert a Tom Vooght try before Stapley crossed for his first to make it 12-3.

Raiders hit back with McLean improving his own try, but Will Morrison’s score was then converted to re-establish Rams’ nine-point lead before McLean kicked a penalty to reduce the gap to 19-13 at the break.

Another McLean kick on 52 minutes further reduced the deficit, but Rams then turned the screw with three unanswered scores courtesy of a penalty try and converted efforts from Craig Nightingale and Stapley.

Leading 40-16 with 12 minutes remaining the game was up, although the home side battled bravely and had the final say by grabbing two seven-pointers of their own through substitute Sam Hampson – McLean with the extras to take his tally to 18 – and a penalty try of their own.

Oxford Harlequins 5-65 Rams (March 21, 2015)

Rams closed in on the National Three South West title with a 10-try thrashing of Quins.

The visitors made a blistering start and were 14-0 in front after just six minutes, Luke Flower converting tries from Olly Poole and Joe Duffelen.

James Brooks then kicked a penalty before James Baker bashed his way over in the right-hand corner, and with Poole and Duffelen both completing their doubles, and Olly Foxley also dotting down, Rams had amassed a commanding 43-0 advantage by half-time.

They could not keep up the rate of scoring in the second period, and in fact suffered an early shock when Jack Williams got Quins on the board just two minutes after the restart.

However, that was as good as it got for the hosts, with Jack Steadman scoring his first Rams try and Luke Flower, Azza Hopkins and replacement Will Clarke also going over to complete a dominant success.

Ealing 58-12 Rams (August 14, 2010)

A brace of Swadling tries and a Shaun Brown conversion were merely a consolation during a heavy pre-season reverse.

Rams 55-15 Buckingham (April 22, 2006)

Nine-try Rams turned on the style as they completed their Southern Counties North title-winning season at home to Buckingham.

There was a hat-trick for Craig Clements along with braces for Justin Buchanan and Joao Costa, with fly-half Matt Reed and Ben Saunders the others to go over and the latter kicking five conversions.

Rams 54-16 Bicester (November 2, 1974)

Gensians went on an 11-try spree in an excellent display of fast, open rugby at Old Bath Road.

Paul Carroll led the rout with a hat-trick to exact revenge for a defeat to the Oxfordshire side the previous season.

There were also a couple of tries for Chris Champion, with the others coming from Waters, Sexstone, Timbers and Gareth Rees, the latter adding four conversions.
