As we look back to finally returning to the field of play against our neighbours and National One rivals Chinnor, we will take a look back over some classic encounters before May 22.
7) Rams 37-21 Chinnor (April 2016)
Rams sealed an amazing survival in their maiden National Two South campaign with a bonus-point home win against Chinnor, Spike Chandler’s imperious boot also adding 17 points to the tally.
Having seemed almost dead-and-buried in terms of relegation having lost seven of their first eight games of the season, a brilliant run culminated in this victory which meant a second season in the fourth tier of English rugby.
Jamie Guttridge’s second-minute try, converted by Chandler, gave Rams an early advantage, before Sam Angel converted a Nathan Hannay score to make it 7-7.
Two Chandler penalties – the second resulting in an Alex Waddingham yellow-card for a high tackle – put the hosts 13-7 in fron, and Sean McDermottroe’s converted effort just before the interval meant they had a 13-point lead.
A second Angel try, the scorer slotting the extras, cut the gap, but George Drury’s superb individual five-pointer was added to by Chandler to restore the advantage to 27-14.
A Ben Henderson fly-hack was collected by Drury who put Conor Corrigan away for the key bonus-point try – again converted by Chandler – and despite Hannay going over again, the game was all but up before Spike’s third penalty put the final exclamation point on proceedings.
