Stunning comeback against Barnstaple, thrashed by Marlow, North Dorset revenge and clubhouse re-opening followed by Berkshire rout!

Rams 55-17 Barnstaple (September 6, 2014)

A remarkable second-half turnaround helped Rams start what would ultimately be a title-winning season in style at Maidenhead.

The National Three South West curtain-raiser was played at Braywick Park due to the ongoing clubhouse renovation at OBR, and things looked decidedly ropey when Barum went into the break 17-6 to the good.

Luke Berry converted a Scott Warren try to give the visitors a 7-0 lead after 10 minutes, and after James Brooks kicked a penalty, 10 more Berry points made up of a try, conversion and penalty gave Barnstaple a 14-point lead.

However, that was as good as it got for them as Rams racked up a stunning 52 unanswered points to claim an ultimately impressive victory.

A Brooks penalty had reduced the half-time arrears, and they had burst into the lead just six minutes into the second period through converted tries from Olly Poole and Joe Duffelen.

Stevie Bryant grabbed the next and with Brooks also converting two more efforts from Poole and debutant Luke Flower, Rams had marched into a 41-17 advantage.

And it was Flower who then showed his accuracy from the tee, knocking over the extras to the last two tries scored by Jack Hill and inspirational substitute Andy Amor.

Rams 5-67 Marlow (February 9, 2002)

Spike Chandler scored Rams’ only points with a try on an afternoon to forget for the boys in blue!

Rams 61-11 North Dorset (September 12, 1998)

On their return to Southern Counties rugby, Rams went on an 11-try romp.

It was a great day for full-back Rodney Hutson, who celebrated his debut after switching from Reading with a hat-trick.

There were also two tries apiece for skipper Dave Cox and Rob Castell, with Gary McGregor, Pyke, Micky Bell and Frankie Richardson also making their way over the line.

Dave Layder kicked a trio of conversions as Rams gained a measure of revenge against the side which consigned them to Berkshire, Dorset & Wiltshire One two years previously.

Rams 16-56 Berkshire (October 14, 1973)

It was a big day at Old Bath Road as the new clubhouse was opened by RFU president, Micky Steele-Bodger.

It cost £22,000 and the ceremony was followed by a match between Gensians and a strong Berkshire XV.

The county raced to a 20-0 lead, but tries from Phil Griffiths and Chris Champion and a Gareth Rees conversion reduced the arrears by half-time.

However, a Phil Adams touchdown improved by Gerry Howarth proved in vain as Berkshire finished strongly with 30 points in the final quarter-of-an-hour.
