CHINNOR CLASHES NO. 6: RAMS 23-20 CHINNOR

Rich Ashton17 May 2021 - 07:25

Baker, Stapley and Reynolds lead amazing fightback!

As we look back to finally returning to the field of play against our neighbours and National One rivals Chinnor, we will take a look back over some classic encounters before May 22.

6) Rams 23-20 Chinnor (September, 2009)

A magnificent fightback saw Rams overturn a 15-point deficit to claim a narrow win in their maiden National Three South West campaign.

It was the away side who came out of the blocks quickest and they crossed the whitewash through Ben Farr in just the fourth minute.

James Baker replied for Rams as he gobbled up a loose ball before powering over, but a Hewitt penalty edged Chinnor back in front 8-5.

They stormed clear thanks to a converted James Serrano score and another try from Simon Tattersall, the latter’s coming while Sam Hallett was in the sin-bin.

Yet Rams hit back with tries from Seb Reynolds and the outstanding Robbie Stapley, and with Spike Chandler adding a conversion, the deficit had been reduced to three at the interval.

The second half proved an edgy affair with the hosts benefitting from Hewitt’s wayward boot – he missed five penalty attempts – and despite Owen Root also being yellow carded, Chandler held his nerve to slot a brace of three-pointers and lead his side to victory.

The List:

15) Chinnor 12-5 Rams (September, 2010)
14) Chinnor 22-10 Rams (September 2011)
13) Chinnor 16-10 Rams (January, 2017)
