As we look back to finally returning to the field of play against our neighbours and National One rivals Chinnor, we will take a look back over some classic encounters before May 22.
3) Chinnor 39-41 Rams (December 2015)
An absolutely epic encounter saw Rams win a pre-Christmas cracker and take a major step in their remarkable recovery act which ended in survival in their first season at Level Four, also securing their first-ever victory at Kingsey Road.
Sean McDermottroe put the visitors in front as early as the fifth minute, but Chinnor hit back and took the lead soon after when a Jamie Townsend try was converted by Bertie Hopkin.
A Luke Flower penalty put Rams 8-7 in front, only for Joe Vandermolen to put Chinnor back in front before the quarter-of-an-hour mark with their second try, Hopkin again on target with the conversion.
The away side rallied though, and stormed ahead thanks to Flower adding the extras to tries from McDermottroe and Olly Foxley, albeit Hopkin was on target after Oscar Heath went over on the stroke of half-time.
Leading 22-21 at the interval, Rams wrapped up a bonus-point early in the second period when Tom Vooght crossed, Flower again adding the extras, only for Heath’s second to cut the gap to 29-26.
Robbie Stapley – in his first game back after re-signing from Henley – powered over before another try from Ben Henderson, the former converted by Flower, seemed to have Rams set fair with a 41-26 advantage.
However, there was further drama to come as a Ben Manning try in the 74th-minute, followed by a Hopkin penalty and Vandermolen score in injury-time, reduced the deficit to two points.
Hopkin had the conversion shot to snatch a share of the spoils, and to add to the drama, was offered a second chance in the eighth-minute of stoppage time after Rams were ruled to have tried to charge down the kick early.
Yet he was unable to take advantage, the kick brushing the outside of the post to allow Rams to celebrate an early festive present.
