Most tries against: (5) – Chippenham.

Summary:

Joe’s first Rams’ try came way back in the 24-5 defeat at Chinnor in January, 2008, and he added a double at St Ives (40-5) as his side finished eighth in South West One.

Another two tries arrived the following season at Chippenham (45-24) and Barnstaple (21-15), before he returned from a three-year absence to bag a brace at Amersham & Chiltern (57-17) and a try at home to Chippenham (41-10) as Rams finished third in National Three South West.

Joe’s most successful season to that point arrived the following year when he snaffled nine scores, starting with the 19-8 home win against Brixham.

He crossed in the next two weeks at Chippenham (14-20) and at home to Exmouth (25-27), before adding a brace at home to Maidenhead (62-0) to make it five tries in five games.
His sixth of the season came a fortnight later at Newton Abbot (30-25), and his hot streak continued two weeks later with a home double against Oxford Harlequins (57-12).

Joe’s last score of the season came in the 36-21 success at Brixham in the first game of 2013.

He added another six tries in the runners-up campaign of 2013/14, going over at home to Chippenham (60-5), twice against visitors Avonmouth Old Boys (55-13), at Bracknell in the narrow 18-16 reverse, at Chippenham (29-12) and in the 32-32 home draw with Lydney.

While Rams missed out on promotion, they secured it the following year by winning the title in Joe’s most prolific campaign, when he contributed 11 tries to the cause.

The first came at home to Barnstaple (55-17) in the opener, before he grabbed another in the 27-3 derby win against Bracknell.

Perhaps his greatest try – a 75-metre effort in which he beat numerous would-be defenders – came in the narrow 24-20 home win against Old Patesians, and he backed it up at Old Redcliffians (51-15) the next week.

His fifth and sixth of the season came at home (49-22) and away (16-13) to Brixham, before a brace of doubles arrived against Old Pats (67-17) and Oxford Harlequins (65-5) as Rams closed in on the title.

And while their final game at Barnstaple (7-39) proved something of a case of ‘After the Lord Mayor’s Show’, it was Duffers who scored Rams’ last try in National Three South West.

Joe’s first two tries in National Two South both ended defeat in the first season in National Two South – at home to Bishop’s Stortford (15-27) and Old Albanian (21-31), but he enjoyed more success at the start of the 2017/18 campaign when he contributed to the 44-16 home win against London Irish Wild Geese.

Having added another against Cinderford (36-37), Joe hit his straps again in the title-winning season of 2018/19, running in nine scores.

He started at Geese (41-10), added another against Henley (43-13), and made it four tries in six with efforts at home to Bury St Edmunds (47-21) and Guernsey (48-14).

His fifth of the campaign came in the 41-12 home win against Worthing, and he added another at Redruth (32-14) the next week.

As Rams closed out the season with a brilliant 28 wins from 30 games, Joe’s final scores came in the victories against Guernsey (59-8), Old Reds (31-15) and the finale at Canterbury (31-14).
